The German Online Data Session started in 2011 as an online meeting space for conversation analysts working primarily with German interaction data. During the whole year, researchers (both students and faculty) from different universities get together for monthly open data sessions of approx. 90 minutes each. In these online video sessions, we analyze German data and delve into topics such as turn-taking, sequence organization, repair, learner and teacher talk, grammar and interaction.
For each session, one group member provides data (a video/audio extract and transcript) for inspection before the meeting. During the online meeting, participants share and discuss their observations. This format provides us with opportunities to a) analyze data from various settings, b) share in each others’ research and develop new research topics, c) present difficult data samples to a friendly audience for feedback, and d) hone our analysis skills.
Meeting times vary. We usually set new dates in April, August, and December, but you can join the group at any time. If you would like to participate, email me or the group's co-organizer Sam Schirm to get the meeting link.
